Have been running regularly since I started university, in 1999. Found it’s a very good way to help overcome asthma and gain general fitness. I just hope my knees don’t give way for another few decades! Just ran the Gold Coast Marathon and scraped in under my goal time of under 3 hours by about 20 seconds.

These photos are from when 3 friends and I took part as a team in the 2001 Lest We Forget Ultra Marathon from the Gold Coast back to Brisbane. Doing the team event, it was split into 4 half marathons of 21.1 km each. All up I think it took us around 7 hours to get back from Cavill avenue at the Gold Coast back to Brisbane. And we were beaten by some of the ultra marathoners who did the whole run by themselves, which was very impressive.
- I had the second leg. Our first runner Andy did a pretty quick time of 1:26 (with a few kilometres of that on the beach) which put us in 8th place overall. Unfortunately, we spent the rest of the race being overtaken! I think I was pretending to take a mobile phone call for god knows what reason when this photo was taken.
