A group of friends and a marathon challenge and six months of training – what a great experience 🙂
- Carbohydrate loading on pizza at Castelli’s on the Friday night.
- Fitting the electronic timing chips to the shoes – quick a tricky procedure to get it comfortable.
- Checking out the timing splits required to go under 3 hours – for each and every of the 42 km.
- Us at about 4:45 am the Sunday morning of the race.
- Us at the race venue, about 40 minutes before the start of our race.
- Start of the Gold Coast 2005 Marathon, with the elite international runners at the front of the field.
- Me at the 26 km mark, when the pain and nausea starts to set in.
- Nige at the 26 km mark, looking strong and comfortable.
- Andrew at the 26 km, looking far too comfortable for a marathon.
- The professional photo of me all alone at the 26 km mark on the bridge. The blue bracelet is for the sub 3 hr pace group, which I was ahead of at that stage, but who caught me up, and eventually overtook me. Luckily they were running about 2 or 3 minutes under sub 3 hr pace so I had a little margin. The time at bottom right is my net time.
- Video screenshot of me finishing, very slowly, very painfully, the race.
- The whole team after the race, with everyone successfully finishing their race.
- Letter from the staff of the Gold Coast Airport Marathon about this webpage. They gave each of us a free shirt and visor!
